The second issue of the Journal of Biathlon Coaching explores current research and applied practices aimed at improving biathlon coaching. With Milano Cortina 2026 on the horizon, the issue presents key findings in performance, physiology, and technique. One focus is on the specific needs of female athletes, addressing the effects of hormonal cycles, puberty, and pregnancy on training. Another section features an interview with Sandra Flunger, highlighting the role of team cohesion and altitude camps in preparing for major events. High-altitude preparation is examined in detail, with recommendations for acclimatization and monitoring to optimize performance and minimize injury risk. Related to this, the role of athlete monitoring is emphasized as a foundation for tailoring training based on load and well-being data. Technical aspects are also covered: recent studies investigate the impact of upper body strength and pole length in skiing, and a new aiming strategy framework is introduced to support individualized shooting technique development.
